Chemistry C2 4.3 The effect of temperature

?
What happens to reactions as the temperature increases?
Reactions happen more quickly as the temperature increases.
1 of 9
What does increasing the temperature do?
Increasing the temperature increases the rate of reaction because particles collide more frequently and more energetically.,
2 of 9
What happens to the collisions at a higher temperature?
At a higher temperature more of the collisions result in a reaction because a higher proportion of particles have energy greater than the activation energy.
3 of 9
Increasing the temperature increases the speed of the particles in a reaction mixture meaning they collide more often, what else therefore increases?
As well as colliding more frequently they collide with more energy, which therefore also increases the rate of reaction.
4 of 9
How large does temperature change need to be to have an effect on reaction rates?
A small change in temperature has a large effect on reaction rates, at ordinary temperatures a rise of 10° C will roughly double the rate of many reactions and a decrease of 10° C will roughly double the time a reaction takes.
5 of 9
Why do we use refrigerators and freezers?
The cold temperatures decrease reaction times and food stays fresher for longer.
6 of 9
Why does increasing the temperature have a large effect on the rate of a reaction?
Because it increases the frequency of collisions and it increases the energy of the particles..
7 of 9
Why does a small change in temperature have a large effect on the rate of reaction?
It increases the frequency of collisions and the energy of the particles.
