What separation methods relies on differences in boiling points?
Fractional distillation
1 of 5
Explain why a mixture of ethanol and water can be separated using fractional distillation
Because Ethanol and water have different boiling points and ethanol evaporates easier when heated also the first fraction will contain a higher concentration of ethanol

Describe the three of the main stages in treating fresh water to make it potable.
You will first have to remove any large objects in the water you would then have to use aluminium sulfate to clump all the insoluble particles together so it can settle at the bottom of the particle this is called sedimentation and use chlorine

Paper chromatography was carried out on a sample of ink. A red spot travelled 42 mm and the solvent front travelled 75 mm. Calculate the Rf value of the substance in the red spot. RF value = distance traveled by a dye / distance traveled by solvent
Rf = 42/75=0.56

Fresh water can be stored in reservoirs in the UK. Describe how water from a reservoir can be made potable. In your answer, include the meaning of potable
Potable means safe to drink and you would need to screen and remove larger objects such as leaves and then you will need to allow sedimentation to occur and a
