When two forces interact, what forces do they exert on each other?

Equal and Opposite

3 of 24

What is resultant force?

A number of forcs acting on a single point may be relaced with a single force

4 of 24

What may a resultant force do?

Make an objectschange its state of rest or motion

5 of 24

What is a force?

A push, pull or twist

6 of 24

What is the difference between a vector and a scalar?

A vector has DIRECTION as well as magnitude

7 of 24

Name all the vectors and scalars in the exam

Vectors - Accleration, Force, Velocity. Scalars - Speed, Distance, Time, Mass, Energy, Power

8 of 24

What is the equation involving mass, accleration and force?

F=ma

9 of 24

What is the equation involving spring constant, force and extension.

Hooke's law- F=ke

10 of 24

What will happen if the resultant force acting on an objects is A)0, B) not 0

A) the object will continue to move at the same speed in the same direction, B) the object will accelerate in the direction of the resultant force

11 of 24

A car has a mass of 1000kg. When the acceleration pedal is pressed there is a resultant force of 3000N. What is the accleration of the car?

3 m/s/s

12 of 24

What is velocity?

The direction of an object as well as it's speed

13 of 24

What is acceleration?

How much the csr's speed increases over a certain period of time. Measured in m/s/s

14 of 24

What are the forces acting upon a moving car?

Driving force, air resistance, friction, gravity

15 of 24

Describe the forces acting on a car moving at a steady speed

Resistive forces balance the driving force

16 of 24

Part B) What happens if the car then accelerates?

The speed of the vehicle increases. The resistive forces then increase until they balance the driving force again and the car reaches a steady speed.

17 of 24

What is the equation for working out weight?

W = mg (weight=mass x gravitational field strengh)

18 of 24

How strong (in Newtons) is gravity?

10N

19 of 24

Explain Elasticity

A force applied to an elastic object such as a spring will result in the object stretching and storing elastic potential energy. This is because work is done in streching the spring . If the force is released the stored energy is released as kinetic.

20 of 24

What is the relationship between force and extension?

The extension of an object is directly proportional to the force applied, provided the limit of proportionality is not exceeded.

21 of 24

What is the limit of proportionality?

. the greatest stress that can be applied to an elastic body without causing permanent deformation

22 of 24

What is the equation involving work done, distance and force?

W = F x d

23 of 24

What is work done?

When one form of energy is transferred to another?
