Chemistry 1 AQA

?
What are some ways of predicting earthquakes and volcanic eruptions?
Markers placed along plate boundaries checked for movement, monitoring volcano slope angles, rocks heating up before earthquakes
1 of 8
What are the conditions for solidifying oils?
Hydrogenated- reacted with hydrogen gas, a nickel catalyst and at about 60 degrees celcius
2 of 8
Are alkenes saturated or unsaturated?
Alkenes are unsaturated
3 of 8
What is the name of the copper ore?
Chalcocite
4 of 8
What are the properties of Titanium>
High melting point, protective oxide layer, denser than aluminium but less dense than most metals, strong
5 of 8
What are the properties of Aluminium?
Low density, excellent conductor, ductile, doesn't corrode due to oxide layer, not particularly strong but is used for alloys
6 of 8
How is aluminium extracted?
Aluminium is extracted using electrolysis (because it is fairly reactive and cannot be displaced by carbon) , with an electric current passed through molten aluminium oxide. Very expensive.
7 of 8
How is titanium extracted?
As extraction using carbon would make titanium very brittle, it has to be displaced by a more reactive metal such as sodium or magnesium, both of which have to be extracted by electrolysis beforehand.
