Chloride- Cl- (aq)
To a solution of halide add: Dilute nitric acid and silver nitrate solution. Result- White precipitate

Bromide- Br- (aq)
To a solution of halide add: Dilute nitric acid and silver nitrate solution. Result- Cream precipitate.

Iodide- I- (aq)
To a solution of halide add: Dilute nitric acid and silver nitrate solution. Result- Yellow Precipitate.

Sulphate- SO42- (aq)
Add dilute hydrochloric cid and barium chloride solution. Result- White precipitate.

Nitrate- NO3- (aq)
Add sodium hydroxide and heat. Add aluminium powder and test any gas given off with damp red litmus paper. Result- Red litmus turns blue (as ammonia gas is produced)
