Life processes and oragnisms

?
What are the 7 life processes ?
Movement - of all parts of the organism Respiration - getting energy from food Sensitivity - response to stimuli (changes in surroundings) Growth Reproduction - producing offspring Excretion - waste removal Nutrition - needs food Controll
1 of 26
Cell membrane
Holds the cell together and controls substances entering and leaving the cell
2 of 26
Mitochondria
Where respiration occurs and energy from food is released
3 of 26
Cytoplasm
Kinda complex, contains small organelles and many chemical processes happen there , A liquid gel where chemical reactions occur, where sugar and oxygen react
4 of 26
Nucleus
Contains genetic material in the chromosomes. These control how a cell grows and works and contain instructions on how to build a new cell, Also controls cell division
5 of 26
Cellulose cell wall
made of cellulose gives them support and shape
6 of 26
Chloroplasts
Has green chloroplasts which absorbs light and assists photosynthesis
7 of 26
Vacuole
Many plant cells have a large central vacuole, a gap in the cytoplasm that contains cell sap, The vacuole is used for storage of some materials and keeps the call rigid ,If there is not enough cell sap the cell may collapse and the plant may wilt
8 of 26
What is the order of cells ?
Cells, Tissues, Organs, Organ systems
9 of 26
What are enzymes?
Biological catalysts that control all the reactions in a call. They are protiens.
10 of 26
What can the functions of enzymes be impacted by?
The functions of enzymes can be impacted by temp. + pH
11 of 26
The shape of what makes an active site
The shape of the protein molecule makes an active site the substrate attaches to the active site. - The reaction takes place and products are formed
12 of 26
When a cell breaks down small food molecules are
assimilated from the gut to release stored chemical energy
13 of 26
The chemical energy from the cell breakdown of small food molecules
muscle contraction , active transport and cell division
14 of 26
For aerobic respiration oxygen is used to
oxidise the food
15 of 26
Glucose + oxygen =
carbon dioxide + water + (energy)
16 of 26
What is the formula equation for photosynthesis/aerobic respiration
6CO2 + 6H2O = C6H12O6 + 6O2
17 of 26
How can you can test to see if carbon dioxide has been made
by using limewater
18 of 26
You can test for heat by
germinating pea seeds
19 of 26
With anerobic repiration not all of the x is broken down and not as much x is released
With anerobic repiration not all of the glucose is broken down and not as much energy is released
20 of 26
In yeast cells the product of anerobic repiration is
carbon diocide and ethanol
21 of 26
In animal cells the product of anerobic repiration
is latic acid
22 of 26
What is oxygen debt?
In exersice occours muscles produce latic acid , this then means that the body makes an oxygen debt so after the exersice the body needs to increase the intake of oxygen so that the oxygen can break down the latic acid as it is poisionus to the body
23 of 26
Active transport is?
Substances that move against a concentration gradient Or a selectivley permeble membrane
24 of 26
Osmosis
A type of diffusion where water travels across a partially permebale membrane from a high to low concentration down the concentration gradient Happens across cell membranes
25 of 26
Diffusion
The net movement of particles from a high to low concentration Passsive as it brings down the concentraion It can be impacted by many things , temperature , concentration and surface area
