Typology
Descriptive grouping of respondents who share certain characteristics
3 of 18
DP (data processing)
Name for the team of specialists and technicians in larger research agencies who prepare the tables and sometimes also write CATI, CAPI and web interviewing scripts.
4 of 18
Specification
File of instructions written to create cross-tabular output (spec writers make this).
5 of 18
Code frame
List of the most frequently occurring written-in responses to open-ended questions, each being assigned a unique code.

Cross-tabulation
Breakdown of responses to questions by responses to other questions.

Total number of cases or respondents
11 of 18
Pre-weighting
Arithmetic weighting factors calculated independently of the dataset to correct inherent bias due to the sampling method.

Universe weighting
Used to scale the total on a table to the total for the population.

Standard deviation
The average amount that each value lies away from the mean, totalled for the whole table.

A means to show that the measure or difference being viewed is unlikely to be due to chance or sampling error, and therefore may be considered a reliable measure.
15 of 18
Chi-square
A test if significant association between variables in a cross tab.
16 of 18
Level of confidence
Level of probability, which provides a threshold to a significance test. From this, it is possible to infer that the value observed is significant if it has exceeded the confidence level set.
17 of 18
Rounding
