What is Eugenics?
Eugenics is a philosophy which suggests that the human genome should be improved. can be done by intervention such as selective breeding.

What is peer review?
Peer review is a process used to check the work carried out by other scientists. Scientists working in the same field, but outside the immediate research team asses the quality of the research.

what is a gene?
A gene is a sequence of DNA. It encodes for a particular product that has a particular function in the cell.
3 of 15
What is an allele?
An allele is a different form of the same gene. They arise due to variations in the DNA code.

What is a genome ?
A genome is the full set of DNA molecules. The genotype refers to the alleles

What is a phenotype?
The phenotype describes the observable appearance and characteristics resulting in combined effects of genes and environment.

what is HGP?
HGP stands for Human Genome Project. The project produced the first complete map and sequence of human genome (DNA)

what is a case control study?
A case control study is a study where one group already has a certain condition are compared with a control group of people that don't.

What is a risk factor?
a risk factor is any genetic or environmental factor which increases a persons chance of developing a disease. random cohort studies are carried out on the general population

why don't we continue to make neurones after birth?
At birth we already have almost all of the neurones that we need. Over the years the connections start to link the neurones together by the age of three they have formed dense connections.

What are error bars?
Error bars are found on a graph and show the uncertainty or spread of values associated with a data point.
11 of 15
What is gene expression?
Gene expression is the series of processes in cells where DNA is transcribed to RNA, which may be translated into protein molecules.
12 of 15
What is white matter?
White matter is the central nervous system made up of axons only.
13 of 15
What is grey matter?
Grey matter is the central nervous system made of cell bodies.
