What percent of light energy is used in photosynthesis?
only 1% of light energy is used
1 of 9
What is primary productivity?
The rate at which producers convert light energy to chemical energy
2 of 9
What is biomass?
biomass is the total mass of plant matter that accumulates from primary productivity.
3 of 9
What percent of primary productivity ends up as matter?
Only about 50% of primary productivity ends up as matter- the other 50% is in the form of energy.
4 of 9
What percent of vegetation do herbivores eat?
Herbivores only eat about 10% of the available vegetation, decomposers and detritivores consume the rest
5 of 9
Will there be much new animal tissue produced?
no the amount of new animal tissue produced from eating plant matter is tiny
6 of 9
What is a pyramid of biomass?
The pyramid of biomass represents the amount of energy in a food chain.
7 of 9
What is bioaccumulation?
the accumulation of substances like toxins.
8 of 9
What is the greenhouse effect?
Co2 builds up in the atmosphere and traps infra-red radiation, causing the Earth to heat up.
