The armistice

After the Kaiser abdicated the armistice was signed which was an agreement to stop fighting.Germany was torn apart.Allies were a lot stronger.The German army was in retreat.

The terms of the treaty of versailles was not agreed by the German people.Many Germans thought that Germany could negotiate the terms of the treaty.But the allies refused.

The spartacists, led by Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht,were from the left wing independent socialist party.They were based in Berlin and backed by the Soviet Union.They took over government bureau and tried to organise a general strike in Berlin.Frei

The freikorps was a right wing group made up of 250,000 armed ex soliders.Led by Dr Wolfgang Kapp,the freikorps marched on Berlin,causing weimar ministers to flee.The government told trade unions to strike and cause chaos.It was impossible for Kapp to kee
