What are the three classifications of neurons?
Unipolar, bipolar and multipolar.
1 of 6
What are the main features of unipolar neurons?
Single process, fairly primitive, common in the invertebrate nervous system.
2 of 6
What are the main features of bipolar neurons?
Two proceses, axon carries infor away from the cell, dendrite carries info towards the cell.
3 of 6
What are the main features of multipolar neurons?
Have an axon and many dendritic processes, most common type in the CNS.
4 of 6
What type of neuron are sensory neurones?
Pseudo-unipolar.
5 of 6
What are the function of glial cells?
Support neuronal function. Physical support to neurones and proceses, separation of neurones, scavengers for released transmitter and buffer K ions in the CNS.
