Genotype
The genetic make-up of an organism. Describes alleles an organism contains.
1 of 11
Homozygous
An organism with two identical allele for a particular gene.
2 of 11
Heterozygous
An organism with two different alleles of the same gene.
3 of 11
Autosomes
All the chromosomes apart form the sex chromosomes.
4 of 11
Phenotype
Characteristics that are expressed in the organism. Determined by genotype and environment.
5 of 11
Dominant allele
Always expressed in the phenotype, even if a different allele for the same gene is present in the genotype.
6 of 11
Recessive allele
Only expressed in the phenotype in the presence of another identical allele or in the absence of a dominant allele.
7 of 11
Codominant
Two genes that are both expressed in the phenotype of a heterozygote.
8 of 11
Linkage
Two or more genes that are located on the same chromosome.
9 of 11
Crossover
Alleles from one chromatid become linked to alleles on the other chromatid.
10 of 11
Sex-linkage
Characteristic is sex-linked if the gene that codes for it is found on one of the sex (X and Y) chromosomes.
