Plasma Membrane
Found on animal cell surface, and inside plant cell walls. Made of phospholipid bilayer. Regulates movement of substances into and out of cell. Has receptor molecules to allow response to chemicals. e.g hormones.
1 of 21
Cell Wall
Rigid structure that surrounds plant cells. Supports plant cells and gives them a defined structure.
2 of 21
Nucleus
Contains Chromatin (made from DNA which controls cell activity) and a nucleolus.
3 of 21
Nuclear Envelope
Double membrane envelope surrounding the nucleus.
4 of 21
Nuclear Pore
These are in Nuclear Envelope, they allow substances into and out of the nucleus, thus controlling events within cytoplasm.
5 of 21
Nucleolus
A dense area of the nucleus made of DNA and proteins, involved in the production of ribosomes.
6 of 21
Lysosome
Contains digestive enzymes. Can digest invading cells or break down worn out components of cells.
7 of 21
Ribosome
Very small organelle. Can be found free within cytoplasm or attached to Rough ER.Site of protein synthesis.
8 of 21
Cytoplasm
Jelly- like liquid that fills body of the cell and contains the organelles. Chemical reactions can occur here.
9 of 21
Vacuole
A storage organelle. Plant cells have a large one that takes up most of the space within the cell.
10 of 21
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
Surface covered in ribosomes. Folds and processes proteins made at the ribosomes.
11 of 21
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
Transition area where chemicals are stored. Also synthesises and processes lipids.
12 of 21
Vesicle
Small fluid filled sac surrounded by a membrane. Transports substances in and out of cell and between organelles. Can be formed by Golgi Apparatus or ER.
13 of 21
Golgi Apparatus
Processes and packages new lipids and proteins. Also is a temporary storage organelle.
14 of 21
Mitochondrion
Has a double membrane. Has a matrix inside containing enzymes involved in respiration. The site of aerobic respiration, also where ATP is produced. Multiple mitochondria in each cell.
15 of 21
Chloroplast
Has a double membrane. Is the site of photosynthesis in plant cells.
16 of 21
Centriole
Small hollow cylinders containing microtubules. Involved in chromosome separation- they form the spindles during cell division.
17 of 21
Microtubule
Protein tube- involved in maintenance of cell structure.
18 of 21
Cilia
Small hair-like structures found on surface membranes of some animal cells. Microtubules within allow cilia to move, which moves substances along the cell surface.
19 of 21
Flagellum
Found in Eukaryotic Cells. Like cilia but longer. Microtubules within allow flagellum to move. The flagella propels cells forward.

Found in Eukaryotic Cells. Like cilia but longer. Microtubules within allow flagellum to move. The flagella propels cells forward.
