It makes a genetically identical cell, asexual reproduction, growth of organism, repair of tissue, replacement of cells.

What happends in Interphase?
S phase- DNA replication. Growth phase- proteins, organelles and other cell components are made.
2 of 8
What happends in Prophase?
Centroles replicate. Chromatin form chromosomes as they coil and condense. Nucleotides and nuclear enveloppe dissolves. Centrioles move towards opposite poles. centroles form a microtube spindle.
3 of 8
What happends in Metaphase?
Chromosomes line up along the equator. The centromere attached to the spindle.
4 of 8
What happends in Anaphase?
The spindle fibers shorten and pull chromotids further away to opposite poles in a v-shape. Chromatids are separated when centromeres split. Each one is identical to the original chromosome from the parant cell from which it was copied.
5 of 8
What happends in Telephase?
Nucleolus and nuclear enveloppe reform. Chromatids form chromatin. Spindle breaks down.q
6 of 8
What happends in Cytokinesis?
Division of the cytoplasm. 2 genetically identical and diploid daughter cells are formed.
7 of 8
Why is it important that the Gamates contain the haploid number of chromosomes?
To restore the diploid number when the gamets fuse. This prevents the chromosome number from doubling.
