Cell Structure and Function

?
Cell Membrane
Regulates what enters and exits the cell
1 of 12
Cytoplasm
Many of the cell's metabolic reactions occur here
2 of 12
Endoplasmic reticulum
Transport system, canals and channels that connect membrane to nucleus
3 of 12
Smooth ER
Lipid synthesis (breaks down fats that we consume)
4 of 12
Rough ER
Produce proteins via ribosomes
5 of 12
Golgi Apparatus
The packaging and delivery of proteins produced by the ribosomes
6 of 12
Mitochondria
Converts chemical energy from food into a useable form (cellular respiration)
7 of 12
Lysosomes
Contains enzymes to break down substances (“suicide sac”) in the cell such as food or worn out cells, even bacteria
8 of 12
Centrosome
During cell division, the centrioles form a spindle. The spindle moves chromosomes during cell division so that each new cell gets the proper number.
9 of 12
Cytoskeleton
Made of microfilaments and microtubules for cell shape and support
10 of 12
Nucleus
Directs cell activities and contains genetic information (DNA) in the form of chromatin
11 of 12
Nucleolus
Responsible for the production of ribosomes
12 of 12
