Controls the cell's activity by controlling the transcription of DNA. Contains nucleolus which makes ribosomes. Nuclear envelope has pores so substances can move in & out.
1 of 14
What are ribosomes?
Where protein-synthesis occurs. It floats in the cytoplasm and made from proteins & RNA
2 of 14
What is the cell surface membrane?
Regulates the movement of substances in & out of the cell. It has receptor proteins to respond to hormones and is made from lipids & proteins.
3 of 14
What is rough endoplastic reticulum (RER)?
It folds & processes proteins which have been made from ribosomes. The surface is covered in ribosomes.
4 of 14
What is smooth endoplastic reticulum (SER)?
Synthesises & processes lipids - similar to RER but has no ribosomes.
5 of 14
What is the mitochondria?
Site of aerobic respiration where ATP is produced. The matrix contains mitochondrial enzymes for respiration.
6 of 14
What is the golgi body?
It processes & packages new lipids & proteins and also makes lysosomes.
7 of 14
What is the golgi vesicles?
Stores & transports lipids & proteins made from the golgi body out of the cell through the cell surface membrane.
8 of 14
What are lysosomes?
Contains lysozymes which assist in digesting invading cells or to break down worn out componants of the cell.
9 of 14
What are chloroplasts?
Contains chlorophyll and where photosynthesis takes place.
10 of 14
What is the cell wall?
Supports cells and prevents them from changing shape - either made from cellulose, chitin or murein depending on which cell type it's in.
11 of 14
What is the vacuole?
Helps to create pressure in the cell & keeps it rigid. It also isolates unwanted chemicals inside of the cell.
12 of 14
What is the cytoplasm?
It fills out the cell to keep the organelles in place aand contains molecules to breakdown waste and assist metabolic activity.
13 of 14
What is cytosol?
It's the liquid inside of a cell and is the site where enzyme activity & signal transduction occurs.
