Cell organelles

?
Nucleus
controls the cells activities, double membrane, contains chromosomes which are linear DNA associated and wrapped around histone proteins. Pores allow substances such as RNA to move out
1 of 14
Cell surface (plasma) membrane
controls the exchange of substances in and out, has receptor molecules on the surface allowing it to respond to chemicals like hormones. phospholipid bilayer forms the membrane, found in animal cells
2 of 14
Mitochondria
site of respiration and the production of ATP. double layer forming of the matrix and the cristae
3 of 14
Chloroplast
site of photosynthesis, double layer consisting of the stroma the stacks of granum making up the thylakoid membrane. Has lamellae in between, found in plants and algal
4 of 14
Golgi Apparatus (body)
this is a series of flattened membranes which processes and packaged proteins and lipids. It can also make lysosomes
5 of 14
Golgi vesicles
these are seen at the side of the apparatus and are a small fluid filled sac, it stores the proteins and lipids of which the apparatus has made and then transports them out of the cell via the cell surface membrane
6 of 14
Lysosome
this is a type of golgi vesicle, they are made by the apparatus. it can secrete diestive enzymes called lysozymes which can be used to breakdown and digest invading cells
7 of 14
Ribosome
floats free in the cytoplasm or attached to the RER. Its not surrounded by a membrane and is the site where proteins are made
8 of 14
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
this is a series of membranes which are coated in proteins, it processes and folds proteins
9 of 14
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum
similar to the RER however not coated in ribosomes, it instead processes and synthesises lipids
10 of 14
Cell wall
these are not found in animal cells. it can act as strength and support for the plant and can prevent it from changing shape. In plants and algal this is made out of cellulose but in funghi made out of chitin
11 of 14
Cell Vacuole
found in plant cells, can help resist against the changes in pressure. it is found in the cytoplasm of the cell can contain cell sap and cna isolate unwanted chemicals and the prevention from wilting. The membrane is called the tonoplast
12 of 14
Prokaryotik Cell Structure
flagellum, smaller ribosomes, protective slime capsule to prevent immune attack, cell wall made out of glycoprotein-murein, free floating DNA in the cytoplasm not associated with proteins, plasmids, no membrane bound organelles
13 of 14
Virus Cell Structure
Genetic material such as DNA or RNA, attachment proteins which are specific and complementary, capsid, lipid covering
