Nucleus
The control centre of the cell. Surrounded by a nuclear membrane which has pores. Nucleolus in the centre which contains genetic information. Contains chromatin.
1 of 8
Centriole
Hollow cylinders made of microtubules(protein cylinders). Found in all animal cells but only some plant cells. Involved in splittling chromosomes during cell division
2 of 8
Mitochondria
Oval shaped, with a double membrane. Inner membrane folds to for the cristae. Inside the cristae is the matrix(enzymes used in respiration are found here). Site of aerobic respiration and where ATP is produced.
3 of 8
Golgi Apparatus
Group of fluid filled, membrane bound, flattened sacs. Receive proteins from the RER and pachages it with carbohydrates, forming gylcoproteins. These packages that are formed are called vesicles.
4 of 8
Ribosomes
Either found free floating in the cytoplasm or attatched to the RER. Used in protein synthesis. Where proteins are made.
5 of 8
Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (SER)
Responsible for the storage and production of lipids and steroids. Located near the RER.
6 of 8
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER)
A system of membranes that enclose a fluid filled space. Covered in ribosomes. Folds and processes the proteins that have been made at the ribosomes.
7 of 8
Lysosome
Responsible for digesting dead cells and waste particles. 'Rubbish Bin' of the cell.
