Cell Movement

?
What is diffusion?
The net movement of particles of a gas or a solute from an area of high concentration to an area of an area of low concentration
1 of 10
What is net movement?
Overall movement..... net movement= particles moving in - particles moving out
2 of 10
What does diffusion take place because of?
The random movement of particles and the motion of the particles causes them to bump into each other and this moves them around
3 of 10
What is the concentration gradient?
The gradient between an area where a substance is at a high and an area where it is at a low concentration
4 of 10
What makes a steeper concentration gradient?
The bigger the difference, the steeper the concentration gradient and the faster the rate of diffusion
5 of 10
Does temperature affect the rate of diffusion?
Yes. Increased temperature means that the particles move more quickly . When this happens, diffusion happens more rapidly as the movement of particles speeds up
6 of 10
What are simple sugars?
Small carbohydrate molecules made up of single sugar units or two sugar units joined together
7 of 10
Give an examples of a simple sugar
Glucose
8 of 10
Explain how diffusion occurs across a cell membrane?
Dissolved substances move into and out of cells by diffusion across the cell membrane
