describe chromosomes
in the nucleus pf a cell. chromosomes are made of DNA molecules. each chromosomes carry large number of genes
1 of 9
what is a cell cycle
where cells divide
2 of 9
give the first two main stages of cell cycle
1. DNA replicates to form two copies of each chromosome. the cell also grows and copies its internal structures like mitochondria and ribosomes. 2. mitosis takes place. one set of chromosomes is pulled to each end of the cell. nucleus divides.
3 of 9
before a cell can divide it must....
grow and increase sub cellular structures such as ribosomes and mitochondria.
4 of 9
why is cell division important
important in growth and development of multicellular organisms e.g animal and plant cells. as well as this it helps in repairing e.g when a broken bone heals. it also happens during asexual reproduction.
5 of 9
body cells contain....
two of each chromosme. theyre paired.
6 of 9
do gametes have paired chromosomes
no human gametes have 23 single chromosmes
7 of 9
genes
determine many of our features
8 of 9
give the final 3rd stage of the cell cycle
3. the cytoplasm and cell membrane divide to form two identical daughter cells
