what do plant and animal cells( eukaryotic cells) have?
a cell membrane, cytoplasm, and genetic material enclosed in a nucleus
1 of 11
describe what prokarotic cells (bacterial cells) have
they are much smaller and have cytoplasm, cell membrane surrounded by cell wall and genetic material not inside the nucleus but instead in the form of a single DNA loop and there may be one or more small rings of DNA called plasmids.
2 of 11
give the standard form of 1cm in metres
1cm =1 times 10 to the power of -2 metres
3 of 11
how many mm is 1cm
1 cm is 10 mm
4 of 11
what is the standard form of 1 mm in metre
1mm = 1 times 10 to the power of -3 metres 1 metre is 1000 mm
5 of 11
what is the standard form of 1 micrometre of a metre
1 micrometre = 1 times 10 to the power of -6 metres
6 of 11
why are micrometres useful for scientists
because you can use that unit especially when looking at cells
7 of 11
give the standard form for 1 nm to a metre
1 nanometre =1 times 10 to the power of -9
8 of 11
what does same order of magnitude mean
around the same size, for example an apple and orange
9 of 11
how would you describe a pineapple compared to a lemon in terms of size of magnitude
the pineapple is around 10 times larger than the lemon so the pineapple is 1 order of magnitude larger than the lemon (so 1 order of magnitude means 10 times)
10 of 11
what is the key idea of order of magnitude
every order of magnitude is 10x greater than the one before. so 10x is 1 order of magnitude... 100x is 2 orders of magnitude and 1000x is 3 orders of magnitude
