Phenolphthalein
Phenolphthalein stays colorless in acidic solutions and turns pink in alkaline solutions. Sodium hydroxide is a base, so when you add phenolphthalein, the solution turns pink. Other indicators commonly used in the lab are litmus and methyl orange
