Outline Embling's aim and procedure of his research into CBT?
Aim= To find out what type of depressives will benefit from CBT. There were two groups- the treatment group who received CBT and drug therapy and the control group who just received drug therapy.

What are Embling's findings?
The treatment group BDI-11 scores decreased and they were more able to show negative emotions than the control group's BDI-11 scores stayed the same. Patients who did not benefit from CBT show certain personality characteristics...

What personality characteristics do patients who do not benefit from CBT as well show?
High levels of sociotropy, low levels of autonomy, perfectionism and a high external LoC.

What can Embling draw from these finings?
He concluded three things- CBT+drug therapy= more effective, depressed patients do not show negative emtions willingly and people with certain personality characteristics benefit from CBT the most.

Outline Lincoln et al research into CBT.
Using a questionnaire Lincolm et al notified stroke victims who developed clinical depression. 19 patients were treated for 4 months using CBT.

What did Lincoln et al find out and what are the conclusions?
Pateints' symptoms condensed. This supports the idea that CBT is an effective treatment for certain types of depressives.

Outline Beever et al's aim and PPs of his research into CBT.
Aim= to see whether congitive control brain areas are affected by emotional stimuli in individuals showing mild depressive symptoms. The LDG had low levels of depression and the HDG had mild to modertate levels of depression.

Outline Beever's procedure.
432 trials were conducted where PPs were presented with one of three face cues and they had to press a button to signify which target stimuli appeareared, the time taken was recored. Brain scanning was used.

Outline Beever's findings.
There was no difference in cognitive control brain areas with the neural cues but the ventral lateral pre-frontal cortex function was different in each group.

What are the conclusions or Beever's research?
Mild or moderate depressives cannot activate cogitive control brain areas as well as people with low levels of depression. Poor cognitive control highlights vulnerability to depression.
