Catalysts and Reversible Reactions

?
What is the activation energy?
The minimum amount of energy needed for bonds to break and a reaction to start
1 of 10
What will happen if the energy input is less than the activation energy?
There won't be enough energy to start the reaction
2 of 10
What is a catalyst?
A substance which changes the speed of a reaction, without being used up in the reaction
3 of 10
What does a catalyst lower?
The activation energy needed for reactions to happen by providing alternative routes
4 of 10
What will happen to the overall change?
It remains the same
5 of 10
What is a reversible reaction?
A reaction where the products of the reaction can themseves react to produce the original reactants
6 of 10
What happens if a reverible reaction happens in a closed system?
A state of equilibrium will always be reached
7 of 10
What is a closed system?
None of the reactants or products can escape
8 of 10
What is equilibrium?
The relative (%) quantities of reactants and products will reach a certain balance and stay there
9 of 10
What is dynamic equilibrium?
The reactions are still taking plaace in both directions, but the overall effect is nil because the forward and reverse reactions cancel eachother out. The reactions are taking place at exactly the same rate in both directions
