what is the purpose of the Control Unit?
The control unit monitors and controls communications between hardware attached to the computers
1 of 20
what is the purpose of a motherboard?
the backbone that ties the computer's components together at one spot and allows them to talk to each other.
2 of 20
what is the purpose of ALU?
Where all calculations and decisions are made
3 of 20
What is the CMOS battery?
Provides limited power to the low level systems in the motherboard whilst the computer is turned off.
4 of 20
what is the processor?
The place where the processor orginally is placed. E.g. a CPU.
5 of 20
what are slots?
Used for attaching storage or memory.
6 of 20
Connectors
Allows devices to be connected such as expansion cards.
7 of 20
Heat Sink
Takes away heat from inside the PC
8 of 20
Ports:
This component allows external devices to be connected. Such as headphones, or controllers.
9 of 20
Overclocking
This is a method used by a computer to make the pc run at a faster rate and be ran at higher specs
10 of 20
Water cooling
Water cooling is used when the PC gets too hot so it takes water to a high-speed fan and cools down the most priority parts of a PC to make sure it can run without blowing it up.

On-board graphics
An on-board graphic card is a card to improve the quality of your game so that it can run smoothly and feel realistic.
12 of 20
Registers
Small area of storage that is used for fast access used by the CPU
13 of 20
Cache
A cache helps speed up the process by storing frequently used instructions and data
14 of 20
Random Access Memory (RAM)
RAM holds all other data and instructions

that the computer may need to open and run applications or programmes.
15 of 20
Read Only Memory (ROM)
Contains permanent instructions to make sure the computer is in correct form and that there are no faults with the hardware of the PC.
16 of 20
what is a flash drive?
ADV/DIS
Technology that relates to how much memory can be accessed

Saves the data.
Data can be transferred to other devices.

Risk of losing the Flash drive
17 of 20
what is a solid state drive?
ADV/DIS
Integrated circuit that uses flash memory to access memory which is faster and more reliable rather than most storage devices

Uses less power.
Last longer.

More expensive than an HDD.
18 of 20
what is a magnetic drive?
ADV/DIS
Commonly used storage device that is used in traditional hard drives.

Cheaper than solid state alternatives

Access rates are slower.
Damaged easily
19 of 20
what is cloud storage?
ADV/DIS
Storage type that can store data.

Secure.
Your files only.
