Name one bulk chemical made and one fine chemical made?
Bulk chemical: sodium hydroide(NaOH), Fine chemical: medicines & peticides.
1 of 24
Are acids bulk or fine chmicals?
BULK
2 of 24
Name the acid reactions.
Acid+metal=salt+hydrogen. Acid+ metal oxide= salt + water. Acid+metal carbonates= salt+CO2+water.
3 of 24
What salts form in reactions with acids?
Hydrochloric acid = metal chloride. Sulphuric acid = metal sulphate. Nitric acid = metal nitrate.
4 of 24
Steps of balancing an equation.
Write the word equation, Write formula(salt) + other e.g. h2,h20,CO2, Balance equation.

Steps for doing a titration?
Dissolve acid in water(if needed), Rinse equipment, Place acid in burette(measure with a pipette), Place alkali into clonical flask.(Measure with a pipette), Measure acid from miniscus, use white tile for precision, note the result down.
6 of 24
continued
Add indicator to the clonical flask, Start to add acid to the alkali, Stop when there is a colour change this means that the reaction has reached its end point, Measure the amount of acid left in burette(note it down), Take a titra, Lastly repeat.
7 of 24
What is a titra?
Your final mesurement from the burette take away the initial reading.
8 of 24
What do acids release for it to neuturalise a substance?
It releaes H+ ions when dissolved in water.
9 of 24
What do alkalis release for it to neutralise a substance?
It releases -OH ions when dissolved in water.
10 of 24
Example of this.
HCL+NaOH=NaCl+H2O, H+ ions are released from HCl and -OH ions are released from NaOH.. Then H+(aq)+OH-(aq)=H2O(l)

Reacting Mass Equations? Examples.
H2So4=1+1+32+(16*4)=98, CuCo3=63.5+12+(16*3)=123.5, H2O= 1+1+16+ 18
12 of 24
How to calculate a theoretical yield? Equation
H2So4(98)+CuCo3(123.5)=CuSo4(159.5)+Co2(44)+H2O(18)
13 of 24
Working out?
H2So4:CuSo4/ 98:159.5, 159.5/98=1.63*10=16.3
14 of 24
Percentage yield?
Percentage yield= actual yield/ theoretical yield *100. Acctual yield is always less than theoretical yield.
15 of 24
Main reason why percentage yields are taken?
Filtering can cause solution to get stuck in the tissue paper as it is absorbed as it is a liquid, also in purification when it is split, and scraped it is not all scraped all out so some product is remained meaning it is a unreliable total yield.
16 of 24
Performing a chemical synthesis.
Dissolve chemicals, Heat chemicals, Filter solution to remove any unreacted reactants from the solution of the product, evaporate the remaining solution, leave on window sill to form crystals(crystallisation) the lastly dry it in a dessicator.
17 of 24
Factors that cause rate of reaction?
Volume of HCl, mass of Mg, Particle size of Mg, If a catalyst is present, concentration of acid.
18 of 24
Collision theory
Reactants must collide, energy of collision must exceed the activation energy level, the minimum energy required for a reaction to occur=beause it is needed to break the bonds in the reactants,This means a successful collision when reactants=products
19 of 24
How would increasing the temperature of the acid affect the rate of reaction?
Increase of temp= increase in kinetic energy in the reactants, Frequency of collisions increase, More collisions exceed the activation energy= More successful collisions per second.
20 of 24
How would adding a Catalyst affect the rate of reaction?
Catalyst speed up the rate of reaction without it being used up, Catalyst lower the activation energy barrier(by providing an alterniative pathway for the reaction)= more collisions exceed the activation energy= more successful collisions per second.
21 of 24
How would increasing the concentration of the acid affect the rate of reaction?
More particles in the same volume.- the particles are more crowded= more successful collisions per second.
22 of 24
How would using smaller particles of the same mass od solid affect the rate of reaction?
Increase in fine particles= more surface area exposed = more space for collisions to occur= higher chance of collision= more successful collisions per second.
