What is a reversible reaction?
Reaction where the reactants can be reformed after production of the products
1 of 13
What is dynamic equilibrium?
When the rate of the forward and backward reactioon is the same and overall concentration of reactants and products remains the same
2 of 13
In the reaction A + 2B <-> C + D, what would happen if you added more A?
More products (C+D) would be produced
3 of 13
In the reaction A + 2B <-> C +D, what would happen if you removed C?
More C would be produced
4 of 13
What happens if you increase the pressure during a reaction with gases?
The equilibrium favours whichever side of the reaction has fewer moles, rate of reaction increases and temperature increases
5 of 13
What happens if you decrease the temperature?
The system will favour the exothermic reaction
6 of 13
What is Le Chatelier's Principle?
"If a dynamic equilibrium is disturbed by changing the conditions, the reaction moves to counteract the change"
7 of 13
What is the formula for the Haber Process?
N2 (g) + 3H2 <-> 2NH3 (-92kJ)
8 of 13
Why would the Haber Process conditions be considered a comprimise?
Pressure: 200atm - good yeild, quick rate, expensive. Temp: 450 degrees C - quick rate, low yeild, not too expensive. Catalyst: iron catalyst

How does temperature affect RoR and why?
Higher temperature, higher RoR. Particles have more energy so more particles have enough energy to react when they collide. Particles also move faster and so collide more frequently. Therefore more frequent successful collisions.
10 of 13
How does concentration affect RoR and why?
Higher concentration, higher RoR. There are more reactant particles in the solution and therefore more frequent successful collisions.
11 of 13
How does surface area affect RoR and why?
Greater surface area, greater RoR. There are more particles on the surface to react so there are more frequent successful collisions.
12 of 13
What is a catalyst and how do they work?
A substance that speeds up a chemical reaction but does not get used up. It offers a different pathway for the reaction that has a lower activation energy
