what is the relative charge and mass of a proton?
+1 is the charge, 1 is the mass
1 of 10
what is the relative charge and mass of an electron?
-1 is the charge, 0.005 (0) is the mass
2 of 10
what is the relative charge and mass of a neutron?
0 is the charge and the mass is 1
3 of 10
how do you work out the number of neutrons, proton or electrons in an atom?
Proton- the same as the atomic number. Electron- same as the atomic number. Neutrons- take away the atomic number from the mass number
4 of 10
what is an isotope?
an element with the same atomic number but different mass numbers
5 of 10
how many protons, neutrons and electrons does carbon-14 have?
it has 6 protons, 8 neutrons and 6 electrons
6 of 10
what row in the periodic table is this element with this electronic structure? 2.8.6
the third row as it has 3 outer shells
7 of 10
what is the name of the element with the electronic structure of 2.8.6
Sulphur as it has 16 electrons so the atomic number is 16.
8 of 10
what do all the elements in the same group have in common?
the same number of electrons in the outer shell
9 of 10
who were the four people who developed the atomic theory that is accepted today?
John Dalton, J.J. Thompson, Rutherford and Bohr
