The Nucleus
It is in the middle of the atom and contains protons and neutrons. It has a positive charge because of the protons.
1 of 10
The Electrons
These are located around the nucleus. They are negatively charged and have NO mass
2 of 10
Protons
They are located around the outer shells. They are positively charged and have a relative mass of +1
3 of 10
Lithium
It is in Group 1 of the Periodic Table. Produces a red flame when heated
4 of 10
Sodium
It is in Group 1 of the Periodic Table. Produces a yellow/orange flame.
5 of 10
Potassium
Is in Group 1 of the Periodic Table. Produces a lilac flame.
6 of 10
Line Spectrum
When heated, the electrons in an atom release energy as light. The wavelengths emitted can be recorded as a line spectrum.
7 of 10
Line Spectrum
Different elements emit different wavelengths of light. This is due to eachy element havng a different electron arrangement.
8 of 10
Which element were discovered by their line spectrum?
Caesium and Rubium
9 of 10
Line Spectrum
It can be used to identify elements. The technique used to produce line spectrum is called spectroscopy.
