?
How are free electrons used in metallic structures?
The electrons from the outer shell of every atom are free to move around. These carry heat and electricity. They hold the atoms in a regular structure. They allow the layers of atoms to slide over each other.
1 of 5
What are the electrostatic forces in metallic structures?
There are strong forces of electrostatic attraction between the positive metal ions and the negative electrons.
2 of 5
How are alloys harder than elements?
The new sized metal atoms will distort the arrangement so the layers can't slide over each other.
3 of 5
What are the four types of atomic structure?
Giant ionic, simple molecular, giant covalent and giant metallic.
4 of 5
What must you identify structure from in the exam?
You must find the atomic structure from a list of properties.
