What is trhe equation to work out the rate of reaction?
Amount of reactant used or amount of product formed divided by time
1 of 10
Name 5 factors that would affect the rate of reaction?
Temperature, Concentration, Pressure, Catalyst and surface area of solids
2 of 10
How would temperature affect the rate of reaction (use the collision theory)?
If the temperature is higher, the particles move quicker so more collisions happen
3 of 10
How would the concentration of a liquid affect the rate of reactions?
If the solution is more concentrated, there are more particles of reactant so more collisions happen between the important particles
4 of 10
How would the pressure of a gas affect the rate of reactions?
If the pressure is increased, the particles are closer together so the collisions will be more frequent
5 of 10
How would a catalyst affect the rate of reaction?
It gives the reactants a surface to stick to so the number of collisions is increased
6 of 10
How would the surface area affect the rate of reaction?
If the solid is broken up into smaller pieces, the total surface area is increased so the particles in the solution have more area to work on so the collisions will eb more frequent
7 of 10
What is the collision theory?
The rate of a reaction deoends on how often and how hard the reacting perticles collide with eachother
8 of 10
What is the name of the energy that is needed to be overcome to start a reaction?
Activiation energy
9 of 10
What is a Catalyst and what does it do?
It's a substance which speeds up a reaction without being changed or used up in the reaction
