What are the Benefits of having a motivated workforce?
you have hardworking efficient workers, staff take pride in their work,staff remain loyal, quality of output is high, staff have new ideas on how to improve, staff work hard and aim for promotion

What is time rate?
A method of monetary motivation where the worker gets paid per hour

What is a Salary?
a set pay per year divided by 12 months. The worker will not usually be paid for any extra hours.

What is Piece rate?
A method of monetary motivation where the worker is paid per item that the worker produces. This encourages the employee to work faster so that they earn more money.

What is commission?
A monetary method of motivation. This is paid to workers who sell goods or services. The amount to be paid is usually calculated as a percentage of the value of goods or service the worker sells

What is a bonus?
A monetary method of motivation where an extra lump sum may be paid to an individual or group of workers when they reach their targets.

What is Overtime pay?
The time rate may be increased to encourage workers to work longer. Overtime pay may be paid at time and a quarter, time and a half or double time.

What is profit sharing?
a share of the company profit is given as a sort of bonus

non-money rewards e.g company car, discounts, health insurance etc

trainer cannot produce as much, work may be poor quality when producing, difficult with large groups of workers

where the worker is trained away from the workplace e.g college or training centre

experts can provide training, no distraction during training, more fun, can do in large groups

where awards are given out. This is good for the self-esteem of the worker because their efforts are officially recognised

People like working with others to achieve things and they work well so that they do not let their colleagues down

When workers are safe and their work area is clean and pleasant they feel comfortable and so may work hard

This may give clear orders so that the worker are certain about what they have to do

This involves the workers in the decision making so they feel valued and feel that they have some control over their work.

This provides workers with different tasks to do

What is empowerment?
where you delegate responsibility to a worker and give them the power to make decisions on how to do a job.

What is Autocratic Leadership?
Where the leader makes all of the decisions and expects those beneath to follow orders. Little or no discussions with workers. Workers are expected to obey. Effective when decisions need to be made quickley. Effective when dealing with low skilled

What is democratic leadership?
Leaders consult employees on decisions but they are still in charge and make the final decisions. Effective when leading a team of professional workers who are willing to contribute ideas. May not work as hard, may not get their own way, takes longer

What is Laissez faire Leadership ?
Means "leave to do" leader will set the main objectives. Workers are given the responsibility for deciding how to achieve the objectives. Effective when leading highly professional workers Will not work if no got professional workforce

the idea that learners will need to keep on learning different skills throughout their working life.

What is an appraisal?
when a line manager assesses the work of somebody they are responsible for. They may discuss targets for the worker to achieve and training that is needed

the employees may not tell you the truth, takes time to do and whilst they have it they are not working, demotivating if targets are not achieved, if employee is not engaged then it doesnt work

What is induction Training?
special training to introduce a new worker to the business place of work and their fellow worker. It is NOT concerned with teaching the worker how to do their job.
