The characteristic spirit of a culture, era or community that can be observed in its attitudes and aspirations.

Mill and Bentham believed in free market (left to itself). It depends on the what utilitarians define as good.

How can Kantianism be applied to business ethics?
We should do more than just abide by the law. Second form of the categorical imperative- don't treat people as a means to an end.

What is whistle-blowing?
This occurs when a member of an organisation reports misconduct by a superior or co-worker.

What would Kant say about Whistle-blowing?
We have a duty to loyalty. But we wouldn't want to universalise corruption or it's cover-up.

What would a utilitarian say?
Would ask whether the greater good is served by allowing corruption. Cover up could lead to greater harm.

What is globalisation?
With the growth of communication, movement of peoples, trade and so on the phenomenon of economic and cultural movements across boundaries to the world level.

What would Kant say about issues associated with globalisation?
If the business is acting in its best interests, it is treating the people as means, not ends. Exploitation shows no good will, for its end is not dutiful, nor does it reveal good will to all others.

What would a utilitarian say about issues raised by globalisation?
Suffering in a far off place can be off-set by the greater good created for the stakeholders. Singer- can't privilege pleasure in profit over the suffering of others. We are all equal, nobody is more valuable.
