Yeast?
single-celled fungus which reproduces asexually via budding
1 of 5
Explain the process of budding?
1) DNA replicates inside nucleus 2)an area of cell wall is weakened-due to turgor pressure inside cell,it causes cytoplasm & cell wall to buldge out-forms a Bud
2 of 5
Explain the process of budding? (continued)
3)a ring of chitin forms at the junction of cell & bud 4)nucleus migrates to region of bud & undergoes a mitosis division-without nuclear envelope disintegrating 5)One nucleus migrates into bud, along with organelles
3 of 5
Explain the process of budding? (continued)
6)Cytokinesis is completed with a new cell wall between mother & daughter cells 7)daughter cell grows to full size before budding cycle starts again
4 of 5
Difference between budding & mitosis (in animals/plants)?
In budding, cytoplasm divides unequal -leaves 1 cell to grow, whilst other is already full size but in plant/animals new cells are both equal in size-so both grow to full size. nucleus divides in both by mitosis-in yeast-nuclear envelope is intact
