It gave the right to vote to all men over 21, and all women over 30. in 1920 it was increased to 21 for women as well.

150000 women joined the Labour party between 1918 and 1924. although only 9 women served as MPs. Margaret Bondfield became the first woman to hold ministerial office during the Labour Government of 1924.

In which areas of employment did women succeed?
Most working class women worked as domestic servants. There were 1.25 million 1918. The numbers of women working in offices grew by 300000 during the 1920's. In 1931 there were 3000 female doctors and 180000 nurses.

Allowed divorce if either partner had been unfaithful or desertion of over 3 years. by 1951 divorces rose to 38000.

Forced 'coloured' seamen to prove their British Citizenship to immigration authorities or be deported.

The colour bar was were people of colour were excluded from certain types of employment or denied access to healthcare and education etc.

The Communist Party of Great Britain played a significant role in the fight against anti racism as well as the International African Service Bureau which encouraged leaders to lobby MPs for black rights.
