Describe the background to Brighton
Has been a tourist destination since King George IV visited in 1783. He built Royal Pavilion. Brighton and hove has been a tourist destination for more than 250 yrs, and thrived in the late 40's, 50's and 60's.

Brighton and Hove Economic Partnership, in partnership with the City Council, are working through a 10 yr plan, known as the Strategic Framework for Tourism Development

Began in 2004 and identifies what the city is striving to achieve by 2014. Aims include: 12% growth in tourism jobs, visitor income to increase by £600 mil, tourism businesses to be profitable all yr round.

61% of visitors were day visitors, 81% were domestic visitors. 65% were on holiday or visiting for leisure purposes. On average, day visitors were staying in Brighton for 3.5 hrs and spent an avg of £27.82. Those staying overnight spent about £88 pp
