Tidal volume
The volume of air that enters and leaves the lungs at each natural resting breath.
1 of 8
Inspiratory reserve volume
The volume of air that can be taken in over and above the normal inspired tidal volume.
2 of 8
Expiratory reserve volume
The volume of air that can be expelled over and above the normal inspired tidal volume.
3 of 8
Vital capacity
tidal volume + IRV + ERV
4 of 8
Residual volume
the volume of air left in the lungs after the strongest possible expiration.
5 of 8
Total lung capacity
The sum of the vital capacity and the residual volume.
6 of 8
Inspiratory capacity
The volume that can be inspired from the end of a normal expiration.
7 of 8
