What is expiration?
The largely active process, which means that is doesn't require much energy, process of breathing out.

The internal intercostal muscles contract and the external intercostal muscles relax.

The ribs move downwards and inwards.

The volume of the thorax decreases.

The diaphragm relaxes and is pushed upwards by the contents of the abdomen that was compressed during inspiration.
