What processes occur during inspiration?
Diaphragm flattens. Intercostal muscles contract. Rib cage moves upwards and outwards. Lung pressure decreases.

how do the lungs maintain a concentration gradient?
Good blood supply. Take away more oxygen and bring more carbon dioxide. breathing in and out refreshes air in lungs.
