This stage is referred to as the pre menopause transition and lasts until menopause

46-65 years

What are the factors of Middle Adulthood?
Physical capabilities decline, loss of skin elasticity, lower energy levels, sight and hearing decline, hair becomes greyer, some men lose hair and possibly become bald, during this stage most women go through the menopause.

What is the Menopause?
Referred to as the "change of life", end of menstruatio, ovaries stop producing eggs, no longer has monthly periods, unlikely to get pregnant.

Irregular periods, gradual ending of menstruation, hot flushes, anxiety, weight gain and depression

Which hormones have an increase during this stage and why?
Gonadotropins- cause irritability, hot flushes and night sweats, reduction in sex hormones causing a loss of lobido

Making simple dietary and lifestyle changes e.g. eating healthy, balanced diet, taking regular exercise can avoid putting on extra weight

The average period that a person may expect to live

What are some of the physical changes during later adulthood?
Skin is thinner, joints are stiffer, muscles are weaker, bones become brittle (osteoporosis), further loss of strength, muscle and stamina as well as mobility.

What is 'Osteoporosis' ?
Medical condition in which the bones become brittle and fragile from loss of tissue, as a result of hormonal changes, deficiency of calcium or vitamin D
