accused of flirting with a white woman whilst visiting his uncle and was then lynched by the womans relatives. his face was disfigured by the horrific beating he had encountered.

Claudette Colvin born 1939
aged 15 refused to give up her seat to a white woman. NAACP considered using her case to protest the segregation on public transport but colvin who was not married then became pregnant and it was then felt she was not appropriate for the case

fined for not giving up her seat on the bus, then joined the NAACP in 1943.
