explain the structure of water and how it is related to it's function
water has a dipole nature because it has a negative charge on one (oxygen) side and a negative charge on the other (hydrogen) side. it's dipole nature makes it very cohesive and also a good solvent.
1 of 5
what are the bonds between monosaccharides?
glycosidic bonds
2 of 5
explain how glucose's structure is related to it's function
it's structure is related to its function as the main energy source in animals and plants.its structure makes it soluble so it can be easily transported, and its chemical bonds contain lots of energy.
3 of 5
what forms sucrose, lactose and maltose?
sucrose= alpha glucose + fructose (1-2 glycosidic bond) maltose = alpha glucose + alpha glucose ( 1-4 glycosidic bond) lactose = beta glucose + galactose (1-4 glycosidic bond)
4 of 5
describe structure of starch and explain why this structure makes it a suitable molecule for storing energy.
starch is the main energy storage in plants. it is made up o amylose and amylopectin. amylose is long and unbranched chain of glucose joined by 1-4 glycosidic bonds. it is compact, so it is really good for storage because you can fit more in to a sma
