define: synapse
the gap between 2 neurons
1 of 9
how is the nerve signal transferred?
through chemicals which defuse along the gap
2 of 9
define: reflex
an automatic response to a certain stimuli
3 of 9
give an example of a reflex
when light is shone into your eye your pupils go big to let less light in
4 of 9
describe the 1st stage of the nervous system
the stimulus is detected by a receptor, impulses are sent along a a sensory neurone
5 of 9
2nd stage of the nervous system
impulses reach a synapse between the sensory and relay neurone, they trigger chemicals to be sent across, causing impulses to be sent along the relay neurone
6 of 9
3rd stage
when the relay reaches a synapse between the relay and motor neurone chemicals are passed along again
7 of 9
4th stage
the impulses travel to the effector
8 of 9
5th
the muscle contracts to move away from the stimulus
9 of 9
