Structures of male reproductive system (10)
1.Ureter 2.seminal vesicle 3.prostate grand 4.cowper's gland 5.scrotum 6.epididymis 7.testes 8.vas deferens 9.bladder 9.erectile tissue 10.urethra.

Structures of female reproductive system (10)
1.Vagina 2.urethra 3.bladder 4.cervix 5.uterus 6.ovary 7.labia 8. endometrium 9. fimbriae 10. Fallopian tube
2 of 11
Hormones found in menstrual cycle pt1 (FSH and estrogen)
FSH:secreted from the anterior pituary, stimulates follicular growth and estrogen secretion from developing follicles.Estrogen:secreted from ovaries+follicle.Develops endometrium, stimulates LH secretion(follicular phase),inhibits LH+FSH(luteal phase)
3 of 11
Hormones found in menstrual cycle pt2 (LH and progesterone)
LH: secreted from anterior pituary.Surge causes ovulation, development in ovaries, stimluates progesterone secretion. Progesterone: secreted from ovaries. Thickens endmetrium, inhibits LH+FSH (luteal phase)
4 of 11
Menstrual cycle (folicular phase)
1.FSH stimluates growth of follicles 2.dominant follicle secretes estrogen 3.this limits growth of other follicles and FSH 4.estrogen stimulates development endometrium
5 of 11
Mennstrual cycle (ovulation)
1. Surge in LH causes ovulation 2. rupturing of follice creates a corpus luteum. (CL)
6 of 11
Mennstrual cycle (luteal phase)
Corpus luteum secretes progesterone(P)+estrogen(E). P stimulates development of endometrium. E and P inhibit FSH and LH. CL degrades over time, and progesterone levels drop. Endometrium is removed(menstruation).FSH can now start menstrual cycle again
7 of 11
Three roles of testosterone in males
1. Pre-natal development of male genitalia. 2. development of secondary sex characteristics. 3. Maintenance of sex drive.
8 of 11
Out line in vitro ferilisation (IVF)
1.Menstrual cycle is stopped 2.hormone treatment to develop follicles 3.eggs are extracted from ovaries 4.Sperm is selected and injected into egg 5.Egg is fertilised 6.embryos are implanted into uterus. 7.pregnancy test is conducted to test success
9 of 11
Advantages of IVF
1. Chance for infertile couples to have children. 2. Genetic screening reduces risk of child suffering from genetic disease. 3. spare embryos can be used for future pregnancies or stem cell research
10 of 11
Disadvantages of IVF
1. Expensive and not easily accessible 2. Successrate is low. 3. Can lead to eugenics (gender choice). 4. issues concerning storage and disposal of unused embryos. 5. cultural and religious objections
