What is a biofuel?
A biofuel is a fuel made up of organic matter/biological matter (plants). The energy in biofuels originates from sunlight used in photosynesis.Photosynesis produces the biomass in plants and this biomass can be used directly or indirectly as biofuel
1 of 13
What is carbon neutral?
When a biofuel produces the same amount of carbon dioxide as is burnt.
2 of 13
What turns sugar into fuel?
Thermentation
3 of 13
What is DIFFUSION?
Diffusion is the movement of particles from a high to a low concentration until they reach equilibrium.
4 of 13
What is OSMOSIS?
Osmosis is the movement of water from a high concentration across a partially permeable membrane e.g a cell membrane.
5 of 13
What does HYPOTONIC mean?
Hypotonic means there is a high concentration of water and a low concentration or no solute.
6 of 13
What does ISOTONIC mean?
Isotonic means that the two solutions will have the same concentration of both solute and water.
7 of 13
What does HYPERTONIC mean?
Hypertonic means that there is a high concentration of solute (sugar) and a low concentration or no water.
8 of 13
What is ACTIVE TRANSPORT?
Active transport is the process of which solutes are transported from a low conentration to a high concentration. Therefore it is going against its concentration gradient through the carrier protein.
9 of 13
Where are all digestive enzymes made?
All digestive enzymes are made in the pancreas.
10 of 13
What is the function of the lungs?
Gaseous Exchange - take in oxygen from air in lungs to the blood, remove carbon dioxide from blood to air in the lungs.
11 of 13
Name some adaptations of a leaf?
Thin - short distance for the carbon dioxide to diffuse. Flattened Shape - increased surface area for diffusion. Air Spaces in leaves - allows carbon dioxide to come into contact with lots of cells so large surface area for diffusion.
12 of 13
What is transpiration?
Transpiration is the loss of water from the plant. Transpiration is caused by evapouration and diffusion of water from inside the leaves.
