What does protecting a young one include?
staying with the young one to keep them together and away from harm, making a place for them to be protected

What does the weaver bird do to protect its young?
it weaves strands of leaves and twigs into a ball, sometimes with a long tube attached, which makes it hard for predators to take the young, or even notice them

if a species both feed and protect their young it means that both parents need to be involved, one to stay with its young and another to get the food.

some behaviours are innate (walking) but other skills need to be taught.

birds called oystercatchers get food by opening oysters, a difficult task, it takes months for a young to learn.

human babies need to be taught alot from how to get dressed to eating with a knife and fork, aswell as the language.

how does looking after young increase the mothers chance of survival?
the mother is less likley to become pregnant which would put strain on her body and makes it harder to escape from predators - which overall increases her chances of survival

how does a mother looking after her young increase the babies chance of survival?
parental care increases the youngs chance of survival, it gives the babies a greater chance to become adults.

how does looking after young increase the races chance of survival?
if the mother looks after her young it increases the youngs chance of survival, meaning that it is more likley to pass on the genes to another young.
