Denitrification
Anaerobic. Converts Nitrates to Nitrogen Gas.
1 of 5
Nitrification
Oxidation Reaction, Aerobic. Changes Ammonium ions in to Nitrite ions and then Nitrate ions.
2 of 5
Ammonification
Fungi and Bacteria feed on Ammonium containing compounds to release Ammonia, which becomes Ammonium ions.
3 of 5
Eutrophication
Build-up of nutrients in bodies of water.
4 of 5
Nitrogen-Fixing bacteria live in root nodules and the soil.
Roots - Convert Nitrogen Gas into Amino Acids for Plants. Soil - Convert Nitrogen gas into Ammonium ions.
