Where do nerve cells transmit?
Electrical impulses
1 of 9
Where do nerve cells transmit impulses to and from?
The brain and spinal cord (central nervous system)
2 of 9
What do glands do?
Secrete chemicals (called hormones) into the blood stream to be sent around the body
3 of 9
What are "target organs"?
Organs which certain hormones are made to affect
4 of 9
What type of a response are hormones usually more suitable method for communication?
A long-term response (nerve impulses are for short-term, fast responses)
5 of 9
What do nerve cells/neurons do?
Transmit information as electrical impulses around the nervous system to respond to a stimuli
6 of 9
What do sensory neurons do?
Transmit electrical impulses from receptors to the central nervous system
7 of 9
What do motor neurons do?
Transmit electrical impulses form the central nervous system to the effectors
8 of 9
What are effectors?
Muscles and glands which respond to the impulses of the neurons.
