Actin
Fibrous protein found in muscles. Combines with myosin to bring about muscle contraction.
1 of 5
Activation energy
Energy required to start a reaction: the energy needed to break bond in the reactants before new ones can form to make the products.
2 of 5
Active immunity
Immune response in which an individual makes their own antibodies to combat a particular infection.
3 of 5
Active site
Catalytic centre of an enzyme: pocket/groove on the surface of an enzyme into which the substrate fits. The active site and substrate have complimentary shapes.
4 of 5
Active transport
Movement of particles across a membrane against a diffusion gradient. Requires specific membrane proteins and energy.
