Allele
One member of a pair (or any of the series) of genes occupying a specific spot on a chromosome (called locus) that controls the same trait
1 of 7
Locus
mathematics) The set of all points whose coordinates satisfy a given equation or condition.
2 of 7
Phenotype
The physical appearance or biochemical characteristic of an organism as a result of the interaction of its genotype and the environment.
3 of 7
Genotype
A set of alleles that determines the expression of a particular characteristic or trait (phenotype).
4 of 7
Dominant
An allele or a gene that is expressed in an organism’s phenotype, masking the effect of the recessive allele or gene when present
5 of 7
Recessive
Of, or pertaining to, a gene (or allele) whose phenotypic expression is masked by a dominant gene (or allele). Both alleles of the recessive form must be present for this to be expressed.
6 of 7
Apoptosis
Programmed cell death as signalled by the nuclei in normally functioning human and animal cells when age or state of cell health and condition dictates.
